KYOTANGO

Kyotango

The Kyotango region is known for its gorgeous UNESCO bays, heritage boat houses, as well as wellness and longevity. Ancient burial mounds on the coast have historians believe this area was the first true kingdom of Japan. The culture here reflects that, maintaining balance with nature, ignoring time, and harboring the secrets of longevity.

Without the crowds of cities, you will have pristine, white sand beaches, forested temple paths, and sleepy villages built along a UNESCO Global Geopark coastline all to yourself for some quiet introspection or nature therapy. Activities such as beach yoga, cycling, and exploring the nature-surrounded temples are sure to keep your appetites healthy. The delicious cuisine there is also 100% local, including an array of fresh seafood, seasonal fruits and vegetables, a dozen sake breweries, vinegar, soy sauce, rice, and tea producers.

Amanohashidate

Walk on the stunning sandbar of Amanohashidate, a natural land bridge of 3.6 kilometer long. This “bridge to heaven” is one of Japan's three scenic views.

Cycling on the coast

Enjoy the coastal scenery of the area and the feeling of the gentle sea-breeze on your face while effortlessly riding atop your rental E-bike.

Fresh seafood

Kyotango is famous for its delicious soy sauce. Combined this with the freshest seafood at Wadatsumi and you have yourself an incredible dining experience.

Oeyama Mountain Range

Go all the way up the Oeyama Mountain Range, where mist rolls into the mountains, making them appear as if they were islands in the ocean.

Nariaji Temple

Located 350 meters above sea level in the mountain, Nariaiji is a Shingon Buddhist temple that offers beautiful views (some say the best) of the Amanohashidate sandbar.

Chirimen silk

The silk industry hails the area’s Tango chirimen silk for its 300 year history and its use in Japan’s finest kimonos. The region supplies 60% of Japan’s high-quality kimono silk.

Mukai Sake Brewery

Visit Mukai Shuzo, a sake brewery currently run by a female master brewer. Its best seller sake is made from red rice, providing its unique red color.

Sea Kayaking

Join a peaceful sea kayak tour on the clear waters of Amanohashidate. The beauty of the sandbar viewed from the sea is equally exceptional.

Café du Pin

Surrounded by the calm inland sea and canals, Café du Pin is a relaxing space to watch boats passing by or absorb yourself in a book.

Ine Village

Ine Village is a traditional fishing village, famous for its pristine bay and its UNESCO listed fisherman houses called funaya where you can stay the night.

Beaches

The Kyotango areas offers an array of electric blue waters and dreamy sandy beaches. The only problem is to decide which one to pick.

Aceto Restaurant

Do not miss Aceto in Miyazu. Based in a renovated storehouse, this Italian restaurant is owned by a local vinegar brewery and aims to promote the local produce of the Tango area.
